Employees, however, should be loyal, productive and precise. These or similar skill-stereotypes still hold strong in many boardrooms and HR departments in the 21st century.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>But are they still suitable for today\u2019s work sphere?<\/strong> <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b>No!<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; That\u2019s what numerous current studies on the topic conclude. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2022\/07\/the-c-suite-skills-that-matter-most\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harvard Business Review<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> even presents it as <\/span><b>completely outdated <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and instead recommends businesses <\/span><b>hire leaders who are able to motivate global, diverse and digital teams<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and, at the same time, have the <\/span><b>ability to quickly adapt to changes and various environments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This tendency not only surfaces in scientific studies &#8211; it is also becoming more and more evident in real life. While job offers for leadership (C-suite) positions showed a 40% decrease in focus on subject-specific expertise in the last 20 years, the <\/span><b>importance of comprehensive social skills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rose by almost 30% in the same timespan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/resources\/images\/article_assets\/2022\/06\/S22041_SPOT_HELPWANTED_360.png\" width=\"186\" height=\"345\" \/><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2022\/07\/the-c-suite-skills-that-matter-most\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The same is true for non-management positions. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2016\/01\/the-10-skills-you-need-to-thrive-in-the-fourth-industrial-revolution\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Word Economic Forum of Davos <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been dealing with this topic for a while and already stated in 2016 that \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over the years, 35% of skills needed for being professionally successful will change<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d The rapid progression of work environments makes <\/span><b>hard skills fade more and more into the background<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While traditional management skills are hardly found in the top skills list, competencies such as <\/span><b>complex problem solving, critical thinking and creativity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> top the list.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/weforum-assets-production.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/editor\/bD4ikTLC2_fTr1843WCwYsZFbkCs-VwJBAQu2COD1rE.png\" width=\"317\" height=\"290\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2016\/01\/the-10-skills-you-need-to-thrive-in-the-fourth-industrial-revolution\/\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ellevate\/2020\/07\/02\/the-skills-you-need-to-succeed-in-2020-and-beyond\/?sh=46cfd3b13318\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forbes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> frequently analyzes required skills trends and publishes relevant updates and insights. We would like to briefly explain why we use these two terms and what we mean by them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Leaders21 Skills<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Skills&#8221; <\/span>can be translated as ability, being able to do something or having somewhat of an expertise in something. Without wanting to start an academic discussion now: Yes, there are of course many different interpretations of the word. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What matters to us is that, in the context of Leaders21 discourse, we consider the term &#8220;skills&#8221; as <strong>things that need to be <\/strong><\/span><strong>learned<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> and subsequently applied<\/strong>. <\/span>Accordingly, you will find skills named &#8220;be resilient&#8221; and &#8220;invest in relationships&#8221; as well as &#8220;think digital&#8221; and &#8220;communicate&#8221; in our 21st Century Skill Model.<\/p>\n<h3>Leaders21 Competencies<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skills are basically our foundation and include our abilities and capabilities. In short, skills are what we have learned and also our innate talents. A competence includes our skills and goes a bit further: In a competence, the skills are reflected in action. So a competence is the combination of knowledge and skills and thus leads to<strong> the ability to act<\/strong>. We speak of a competent person when he or she <strong>can act adequately in a (difficult) situation and solve a problem<\/strong> in different variations and situations. This means that one&#8217;s own competencies can always be worked on and further developed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For a better understanding, we have a <strong>concrete example<\/strong> based on the competence &#8220;Awareness&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p>You get content on the skills &#8220;be self-reflective&#8221;, &#8220;be mindful&#8221; and &#8220;be resilient&#8221; and thereby get to know them better. For example, you will know why it is important to be aware and with which exercises you can train your awareness. You develop the actual competence when you go beyond your theoretical knowledge and consciously integrate and apply the exercises or tips in your everyday life. Since you do this in the long term, you constantly pay into your awareness competence account.<\/p>\n<h3>21st Century Skill Modell<\/h3>\n<p>As already mentioned, all <strong>7 competencies<\/strong> and a total of <strong>21 skills<\/strong> can be found in the 21st Century Skill Model we developed. This forms the basis for <strong>your personal development<\/strong> &#8211; as an employee or leader &#8211; and is reflected not only on our <strong>21st Century Skills Development Platform<\/strong>, but also on an individual level in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaders21.com\/en\/portfolio\/coaching-mentoring\/\">coaching &amp; mentoring<\/a>, on a team level in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaders21.com\/en\/portfolio\/training\/\">training<\/a>, and from an organizational perspective in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaders21.com\/en\/portfolio\/consulting\/\">consulting<\/a>.
